Plea for safety measures after four die in weekend tragedy

Four men died in a collision on the A436 in Ullenwood in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 21), prompting calls for heightened safety measures on the area's blighted road network.
A Gloucestershire police patrol on the road shortly before 2am made the grim discovery of a collision which involved no other vehicle.
The constabulary said: "Police who were on patrol came across a single vehicle collision which involved a black Renault Clio. The vehicle had left the road and collided with a tree, and four males who were inside the vehicle were deceased."
All occupants were believed to be more than 18 years of age, and urgent work was ongoing to identify all of those involved and notify their next of kin.
The road remained closed in both directions between the A417 Air Balloon roundabout and Severn Springs on Sunday while a collision investigation continued.
In reaction to the news, County Cllr Paul Hodgkinson (Lib Dem, Cotswold) stated on X: This is very sad. The A436 is an extremely busy road which has had accidents and some fatalities over the last few years. The Ullenwood Manor Road junction in particular has low visibility. Residents and I have repeatedly called for Glos Highways to improve safety there."
In reaction, some users of the road have also gone onto social media to repeat their calls for speed cameras to be installed at the site.
One regular user said: "As a cyclist and driver that uses it, that junction is horrible."
● An appeal for witnesses has been set up by police: anyone who has any information about the collision or has any dashcam footage is asked to provide information online by completing this form and quoting incident 52 of 21 July
