Plans submitted to build 36 affordable flats on brownfield site

A developer has submitted plans for the construction of 36 new apartments on Secunda Way in Hempsted, Gloucester.

An old railway siding site next to Hempsted recreation ground, near Gloucester Quays could become a redevelopment site for new affordable housing.

Developer, Secunda Way Developments Limited, has submitted plans to build 33 two-bedroom and three one-bedroom apartments on the piece of land that has been vacant for decades.

The new development will consist of four, three-storey buildings. Blocks A and C will be made up of nine two-bed flats, whereas Block B will consist of six two-bed flats and Block D nine two-bed and three one-bed flats.

The planning, design and access statement emphasises that the scheme will be 100 per cent affordable housing, with its scheduled end user being Gloucester City Homes if plans are approved.

Within the planning documents, the applicant outlines how the proposal aids Gloucestershire's Joint Core Strategy. They suggest that the scheme assists in meeting the new housing requirement target for Gloucester, that sits at 14,359 homes.

Secunda Way Developments Limited is headed up by Mark Holland - well-known Gloucestershire businessman and director of many businesses including Mark Holland Builders and Cape Homes.

Some of Mark Holland's other recent projects include the Double Gloucester pub site on Cheltenham Road, Mariners Court overlooking the Victoria Basin and the medieval ruin of Tanners' Hall.
