Plans for new super surgery in Cheltenham - 500 yards from one that has recently closed

Plans to build a new multi-million-pound medical centre in Cheltenham have been submitted to the Borough Council.

The plans have been submitted on behalf of CheltMed Ltd - a group of three Cheltenham town centre surgeries, who are planning to move to the new centre.

The site has been used as an adult day centre and is just 500 yards from the former Seven Posts Surgery, also on Prestbury Road.

Seven Posts and its patients moved more than three miles away to the new Cleevelands Medical Centre site in Bishop's Cleeve at the start of the year.

The new premises will house patients from the Berkeley Place Surgery, Royal Crescent Surgery and Crescent Bakery Surgery.

The plans are for the existing day centre to be demolished and a three-story building to replace it covering 2,320 square metres.

The plans show 12 consulting rooms on the ground floor, a further 11 on the first floor plus eight treatment and enhanced treatment rooms and four for healthcare assistants.

A new 150sq m Pharmacy will be included on site, and there will be parking for 68 cars, including four disabled access spaces.

According to the design and access statement submitted alongside the plans, the three existing surgeries "have outgrown their current premises" and there is no possibility for them to expand.

It added: "By locating to the new site, patients will benefit from, patient centred care in a modern purpose-built environment.

"Services normally provided in a hospital or other local clinics could be provided at the new building freeing up facilities for more specialist procedures and improving healthcare capacity.

The site backs on to the new Furlong Rise housing development one the former Starvehall Farm that is nearing completion after years of planning and construction.

The plans were drawn-up by West Hart Partnership Ltd architects from Tamworth and submitted by CT Planning from Lichfield.
