Plans for new Bishop’s Cleeve school to be revealed

Updated designs for the new primary school in Bishop's Cleeve will be launched at a community drop-in event this month.

The designs for the Greenacres Primary Academy will be shown at the event at Bishop's Cleeve Primary Academy on June 29 between 4pm and 7pm. Representatives from the county council, Gloucestershire Learning Alliance (the academy trust which will run the school) and the design team will be on hand to answer any questions.

Following the planning deferral in June 2022, Gloucestershire County Council has been working with the design team to review initial plans for Greenacres Primary Academy and to include a drop-off area for cars.

The deferral allowed the council to review updated forecasts for primary places in the area and consider how best to deliver the phasing of the school.

A new planning application will be submitted in the autumn to build a school with two forms of entry, with space on site to add the third form of entry in the future, in line with housing growth.

The new school will be a carbon neutral building and is set to open with pre-school facilities in September 2025.

Feedback on the new proposals will be used to help form the planning application for the new school.

Cllr Philip Robinson, cabinet member for education and skills at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "Greenacres Primary Academy marks a significant investment by the council into schools and the future of children in our county.

"The 420 school places it will provide for the growing village of Bishop's Cleeve are much needed. I would encourage residents to view the plans, either at the drop-in event or online, and give your views on the designs."

Cllr Alex Hegenbarth, local councillor for Bishop's Cleeve, said: "The new primary school in Bishop's Cleeve is a big step forward and will allow more children to receive their education much nearer to home in the village.

"I'm glad a new design has been submitted and that issues raised by residents have been taken on board. I'm looking forward to seeing the new designs at the drop-in event later this month and I encourage residents to come along, view the plans and have their say on them."

Claire Savory, director of academies for the Gloucestershire Learning Alliance, said: "We believe that education sits at the heart of any community and Greenacres embodies this, establishing many links within Bishop's Cleeve to broaden the life experiences of all our pupils."
