Plans for essential road upgrades to be unveiled

Businesses are being invited to have their say on a major road improvement scheme in Gloucestershire.

The A419 corridor near Stonehouse is an important local route connecting the Stroud Valley with the M5 (J13).

Two events have been set up for businesses to hear more about the work, the events will take place on 20 and 22 June, from 2pm -7:30pm at Stonehouse Town Council offices.

Gloucestershire County Council's highways team and the contractors Amey will be available to answer questions from residents.

A number of improvements are proposed at:

* Chipmans Platt roundabout

* Oldends Lane roundabout

* Downton Road signalised junction

* Horsetrough roundabout

Gloucestershire County Council is currently preparing the business case for the £4.36m scheme to go to the Gloucestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) board in August this year.

If approved, construction will begin next year once the design work is completed.

Chief executive of GFirst LEP David Owen said: "Within GFirst LEP we recognise that investment in our transport network is an essential element for economic growth.

"This project will make significant improvements for users of this corridor in terms of access between Stonehouse, Stroud and the M5/A38 and wider road network.

"It also very much complements the investments the LEP has made at the Berkeley Green site to support development of the Gloucestershire Science and Technology Park, improving journey times and making the site more accessible for businesses, employees and students from the Stroud area."

Cabinet member for fire, planning and infrastructure at Gloucestershire County Council Cllr Nigel Moor said: "The council is continuing to improve key parts of our highways network to keep the county moving and growing.

"I hope as many interested local residents as possible will come along and find out about the scheme."
