Plans for restaurant at popular Gloucestershire garden centre approved

Plans to create a café and restaurant at a popular Gloucestershire garden centre have been approved by council planners.

Work is now set to commence on the 270 square metre building at Norton Garden Centre on the A38 between Gloucester and Tewkesbury.

As part of the plans a new, similarly-sized open canopy building for the storage and protection of plants from the weather will also be built.

The restaurant will be 27 by 10 metres and provide seating for 68 people. The new buildings will form an L shape and sit behind the existing garden centre buildings.

According to the information supporting the application, the restaurant and café will lead to the creation of three new full-time and eight part-time jobs, taking the number of staff to 25.

The design and access statement adds that the new development will "provide an enhanced customer experience, to encourage customers to stay on site for longer and generate and promote local produce in the restaurant café."
