Pizzeria announced as next name for £3.5m Gloucester Food Dock

Developers behind Gloucester's new £3.5m waterfront dining destination have revealed their next tenant.

Jamie Di Crescienzo and Jake O'Malley set up their wood-fired artisan pizza business, Bella Mia, six years ago and their quirky converted horse-box has become a must have accessory at events across the region

And now they want to add to their business by setting down roots in their first bricks and mortar establishment, as part of Gloucester Food Dock.

Jamie Di Crescienzo's childhood spent in Naples surrounded by incredible Italian food and influential family members drove his passion for what is now Bella Mia.

Add Jake O'Malley's wealth of knowledge in hospitality and years spent as a professional chef, and they are said to have created an authentic concept where the food really speaks for itself, not to mention the cocktails.

Using top quality ingredients sourced from Italy, the pizzas are cooked in a traditional wood fired oven and served with a smile.

Mr Di Crescienzo said: "Our food is the key, the drive that's made this business what it is today, it's all homemade and has the family traditions and secrets. The main ingredients are sourced from Italy, so you could literally close your eyes and be transported to Naples."

Bella Mia have catered for many events including various events with Superdry, Gloucester Rugby, Wembley to being onset with Made in Chelsea also catering three times for the Greek Royals and endless weddings.

Mr O'Malley said: "Since a young age I always knew I had to be working with food. With 12 years in the hospitality sector I have held various roles have a Level 3 Diploma in Professional cookery. I have a real passion for the industry and my main goal is to bring people proper real quality food. With a lot of hard work, positivity and momentum it had been great to see Bella Mia go from strength to strength over the past couple of years and looking forward to the future."

Once complete, the Food Dock development will be home to 15 independent food and drink businesses drawn from Gloucestershire and the surrounding regions and is expected to create up to 120 jobs.

Overlooking Victoria Basin at the bottom of Southgate Street, the Gloucester Food Dock site extends and refurbishes two 19th century brick buildings, and will incorporate external dining terraces and stand-alone wooden-clad units to create a range of premises of different sizes and configurations.

Food Dock co-founder Ken Elliott said: "Bella Mia is an excellent addition to Gloucester Food Dock, another brilliant business to add to the mix of food and drink concepts already here. It is a real honour to meet so many creative and passionate individuals building their businesses.

"We are keen to hear from others so please get in touch if you have an exciting food concept you'd like to talk to us about."
