Pied Piper appoints new ambassador for Wish Holidays

Gloucestershire RaceRunner and medal winner, Charlie Denman, is Pied Piper's new ambassador for its Wish Holidays.

Her appointment was announced at a launch event held in partnership with travel firm Thomas Cook, Gloucester. The charity presented an exciting new look for its special holidays, in a bid to increase awareness and extend the reach for more families to apply for funding.

Pied Piper awards deserving children with terminal or life limiting illnesses, and their caring families, a much needed rest and holiday where they can make special memories. Whether it is a restful retreat here in the UK, a holiday at Center Parcs or at Disneyland Paris, currently one holiday per month is currently given to a child.

Charlie is a world champion Race Runner, picking up two bronze, one silver and one gold at the Cerebral Palsy World Games in Barcelona. Last year, she took part in the National Cerebral Palsy Sport Series at Doncaster, achieving four gold medals. Charlie ended 2018 on a high, winning both the Disability Sports Performer of the Year award and the Gloucestershire Sports Personality of Year. Charlie is also a member of the British Athletics Para Development Squad.

Pied Piper first met Charlie Denman in 2017, when they sponsored a racer bike for her to enter the European competitions, bought for Milestones. RaceRunning is an innovative sport for disabled people and is a Danish invention. The first RaceRunner was constructed in 1991 and each racer costs nearly £3000 each.

Nick Broady, chairman, said: "Our relationship with Charlie goes back a couple years and wish her well in training for Parsi 2020 Power Olympics."

Charlie said: "I am very proud to be appointed as an ambassador and just want to share my stories so that other children can see what is possible and also have a can-do attitude."

Nick said "We are sending more and more Gloucestershire children on wonderful holidays and it makes a huge difference to all involved. We have been working with Flis Benn and her great team at Thomas Cook Gloucester, who help research and book the holiday and make sure it all happens smoothly with the venue and the families, sensitive to their exacting needs. We couldn't wish for a better travel partner."
