Pet store sales up by nearly a third

Pet retailer, Jollyes, saw a 31% rise in sales in the four weeks to December 31.

The chain, which has a store in Gloucester, said new stores and demand for in-store shopping helped it to deliver a record Christmas, as reported by The Times.

Jollyes opened 17 new stores during the year and acquired Penparc Pet Centre Group in July.

The retailer said the growth was due to people buying more rather than inflation. A survey conducted by Jollyes just before Christmas found that 70% of owners had bought their pet a present.

The retailer said it is on track to reach its goal of £100m turnover and 100 stores within 18 months.
