Policing boss gets on a different kind of beat

Billed as a 'Community Engagement Day', police officers from Gloucestershire Constabulary went out onto the streets of Tewkesbury with a musical message to engage with locals.
Among attractions from the initiative, the Constabulary's mobile engagement vehicle offered a focal point where youths could take their bikes to be security marked – but the event also got the benefit of a summer backing track, thanks to the addition of a Music Bus from Gloucestershire charity Music Works, which has recording studios and practice space in Gloucester and the Forest of Dean.
A force spokesman said: "Music Works is a Gloucester-based organisation that aims to transform young lives through music, but that did not stop the Police and Crime Commissioner from channelling his inner DJ!"
With PCC Chris Nelson on the decks, Jenny's Field in Tewkesbury was soon reverberating to the sounds of Abba. In between, he also helped younger cyclists protect their bikes by showing them how to add their own, personal security markings.
Mr Nelson said: "It's not the biggest audience I've ever played to, and to be honest a bit of 'dad dancing' in public is not normally my thing, but it was good fun and everyone seemed to enjoy it."
He added: "It was also a really good opportunity for people to meet and get to know their local police in relaxed circumstances - and perhaps see them in a different light to what they might expect".
