Part of the A38 in Gloucestershire to be completely closed next month

Part of the A38 through Gloucestershire will be completely closed next month while work is carried out to complete a new roundabout.

The main road between Gloucester and Tewkesbury will have overnight closures on the week beginning Monday, September 23 through to Friday, September 27.

Work has been progressing on the new roundabout, that will access a new housing estate at Twigworth for the past couple of months.

The road was closed between 7.30am and 1.30pm on Saturday to allow for extra work to be undertaken, and further overnight closures are planned.

The contractor for the work, Worcester-based Montel Civil Engineering, have written to local residents and businesses to inform them of the closures.

The letter said: "As part of the new development scheme, we will be undertaking some weekend and night works which will include road closures, which will be advised via local signage in advance of work taking place.

"These closures are necessary on the grounds of health and safety and to enable us to accelerate completion of the works.

"We are working closely with Gloucestershire Highways and every endeavour will be made to complete the works as quickly as possible.

"A plan of the site and extent of the works with diversion route is attached for your information. Residential and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

"We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during these essential works."

The closures will take place between 7pm and 6am each day from Monday, September 23 trough to Friday, September 27.

Signed diversions will be in place for heavy goods vehicles, with two other recommended diversion routes in place for other vehicles.

The new roundabout is needed to act as access to the 725 home housing estate that is to be built imminently on the land to the east of the A38.

Last week, Bovis Homes confirmed that the £195 million scheme will start once the work to build the new roundabout is completed.
