Overnight roadworks on Commercial Road in Gloucester
By Bethany Winter | 29th September 2020
Highways crews will be replacing the well-worn road surface between the junction with Ladybellegate Street and alongside the River Severn to the junction with Quay Street. Work will take place between 7pm and 7am, for five nights from 29 September to 5 October (excluding weekends).
The machinery needed for this work is very large and as a result, the road will be closed from Westgate Roundabout for safety. Severn Road will also be closed during the work.
A signed diversion will be in place. The crossing point at Kimbrose Triangle will remain open for pedestrians to use.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said, "Commercial Road in Gloucester takes thousands of vehicles in and out of the city every day, which is why these works will take place at night to limit disruption. We are investing £150million over five years in our county's roads because that is what our residents deserve, and the disruption will be worth it in the long run."
Cllr Pam Tracey, local member for Hempsted and Westgate division in Gloucester, said, "I'm pleased the county council is resurfacing the road here; you can see by the condition it needs doing. I want to thank the crews working overnight to get this done so our city can keep moving during the day. There will be a signed diversion, however if you know a different route please take care."
