Office let shines spotlight on future of energy firm

The future of one of potentially the most exciting businesses in Gloucestershire is in the spotlight again.

Office space is being advertised in Pillar & Lucy House at Gloucester Quays by agents Bruton Knowles.

On the ground floor restaurant Coal Grill & Bar continues to draw the crowds, but the upstairs floors include office space, and are also home to wannabe energy firm Tidal Lagoon Power.

It is no secret the business is treading water as it awaits to hear from Government whether it will be given the go ahead to build a series of electricity generating tidal lagoons, the first of which would be in Swansea Bay.

A thumbs-up would put it at the forefront of a new industry potentially worth billions of pounds.

Until then, and with the firm's current situation being no secret, news of the office let and what it might mean begged the question of Tidal Lagoon Power from Punchline-Gloucester.com.

The company, owned by Stroud businessman Mark Shorrock, played a straight bat on the subject of its future both in the building and beyond.

"Office space is available in Pillar and Lucy House. Tidal Lagoon Power is still a tenant in the building," said Lisa Jenkins, a spokeswoman for Tidal Lagoon Power.

It is no secret the firm has been forced to downsize as it awaits the decision from Government, which despite a high-profile campaign to remind Downing Street it was a year in January since and independent report approved the project, was not forthcoming.

Tidal Lagoon has openly said that no more investment was expected in the business unless there was a positive decision allowing it to go ahead.

Tidal Lagoon power did not confirm, but Punchline's understands the firm could be willing to relocate should the right tenant come along for what is regarded as some of the best office space in the county.
