NUJ strike over local radio plans

Staff from the BBC, including Points West presenter Steve Knibbs, have shown solidarity and joined colleagues in a two-day industrial action by the NUJ over plans to dramatically reduce local radio services.

Yesterday and today's walkout is in protest to plans to share local radio programming which has resulted in the loss of popular BBC Gloucestershire radio presenters.

According to the NUJ, negotiations with the BBC have stalled adding that their proposals have failed to address the union's concerns about the impact of fewer services and an increase in shared programmes.

Many listeners have expressed concerns about the absence of their regular presenters.
