VIDEO: Next door shops for husband and wife in Gloucester

A husband and wife in Gloucester now have next door shops with the launch of a new lighting and homeware store.

Lloyd Powell has opened L & S Lifestyle in College Street next door to The Candle Tree, owned by his wife Sandra for the last four years.

Lloyd, who worked for an electrical wholesaler in the Forest of Dean for the 30 years, joked: "She kicked me out, so I've gone next door!"

While his wife specialises in candles, Lloyd prefers to sell a more high tech and quirky assortment of lighting.

The shop specialises in portable and novelty lighting, made to order fittings and locally sourced lamp holders.

But the current best-seller is a brush for cleaning radiators, one of a range of cleaning accessories from German company Redecker.

Lloyd said: "We want to stock things that are a little bit different. Our range is growing all the time.

"We thought there was a gap in the market for a specialist lighting shop in Gloucester after the closure of Nevitts on Southgate Street."
