Newmedica invests more than £1m in new Gloucester site

Sight-saving specialists Newmedica have revealed a £1million investment in new state-of-the-art facilities in Gloucester.

Staff at the new-build centre at Brighouse Court will aim to cut waiting times for NHS and private patients needing treatment for life-limiting eye conditions such as cataracts.

The site off Barnett Way in Barnwood is in addition to the already established clinic and surgical centre at Aspen Medical Centre, Horton Road, Gloucester.

As well as specialist surgical suites, the new site will run a purpose-made training and employment initiative, with links to Gloucestershire University, to train tomorrow's nurses and eye surgeons.

Carl Hall, operational director at Newmedica Gloucestershire, said: "This significant investment is a huge vote of confidence in the future of Gloucester and patients across the county seeking eye care.

"We have grown considerably since our inception at Aspen Medical Centre in 2017, so we now need additional dedicated facilities.

"That's why we've built a three-floor building to house a new out-patient clinic, with an advanced operating suite, an administration site and training facilities, which are part of our job-creation initiative where we'll be developing people who maybe have no clinical background but have a desire and talent that hasn't yet been tapped into."

Newmedica Gloucester, which will open the Brighouse Court clinic in February, works in close partnership with the NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups and Trusts locally.

Like the Aspen Medical Centre clinic, the new site will provide treatments such as cataract surgery and management, oculoplastic surgery, general ophthalmology and YAG, a special laser treatment designed to improve vision after cataract surgery.
