New Sue Ryder store boosts local hospice care

The new Sue Ryder shop in Abbeydale is already making an impact on hospice care in Gloucestershire.

The new shop, which opened on June 6 in the Glevum Shopping Centre, has already raised enough funds to pay for a nurse at Sue Ryder's Leckhampton Court Hospice for more than 20 days.

Shoppers will be pleased to find a wide selection of high quality second hand furniture and white goods at the new shop, in contrast to the clothing, homewares and books on offer at the existing Sue Ryder shop in Gloucester city centre.

Jane Hill, Sue Ryder Abbeydale shop manager said: ''Building on the success of our existing shop in the Glevum Shopping Centre, with its wide selection of high quality second hand clothing, homewares and books, we're delighted to have opened a second shop last Thursday just a few doors down.

"This new shop offers second hand furniture and white goods, which can be costly to buy first-hand, at the low prices you would expect from Sue Ryder.

''Not only is our new Abbeydale shop the ideal place to pick up a bargain or one-off piece for your home, with funds going towards the likes of Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham, shopping with us means you will also be supporting local people through some of the hardest times of their lives.

"The new shop has also created lots of volunteering opportunities, and anyone interested in finding out more is welcome to pop in for chat with our friendly team.

"As a volunteer you might be helping on the sales desk, sorting donations or testing portable appliances. No experience is necessary as training is provided, and volunteering is a great way to meet people, add to your CV and even gain an NVQ."

The shop is appealing to business people and the local community to donate goods to the new store. Donations can simply be dropped off in store, or you can arrange to have items of furniture picked up from your home for free by filling out the form at www.sueryder.org/furniture.

The new Sue Ryder Abbeydale shop is located at Unit 5, Glevum Shopping Centre, Heron Way, Gloucester, GL4 4BL. For more information about volunteering contact 01452 521937.
