New solar panels secure future of community centre

A popular community centre in Hucclecote, Gloucester, has secured its future financial stability thanks to a grant of £14,890 from Enovert Community Trust, provided through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF).
The centre, run by Hucclecote Community Association, is a thriving hub of the community, used by residents of all ages.

The grant has funded the purchase and installation of 33 new solar panels on the roof of the building, along with associated equipment. It is estimated that the installation will save the charity around £2,600 a year. The system was installed by local Gloucester business AK Systems Ltd.
Rob Barker, chair of trustees at Hucclecote Community Association, said: "The community centre is open 9am to 11pm every day and anyone can access it. We're proud that groups using the centre range from Boogie Babies through to pilates, yoga and the Women's Institute.
"The recent increases in energy costs had a major impact on the financial viability of the association. We are extremely grateful for the grant from Enovert Community Trust as it means that we can reduce the costs back to a manageable level, providing greater financial security for the organisation going forward."
In addition to the financial savings, it is estimated that the solar panel installation will also save around three tonnes of CO2 annually.
Angela Haymonds, trust manager of Enovert Community Trust, said: "Hucclecote Community Centre provides an essential facility for the 10,000 residents. The Trust is very pleased to have been able to provide the grant that will secure the future financial viability of the centre, enabling it to continue to provide its services to the community for many years to come."
Hucclecote Community Centre is located 3.5 miles from Hempsted landfill site.
