New self-service Leighterton farm shop to open next month

Bennetts Farm Shop, an innovative new enterprise connecting local consumers with artisanal suppliers from Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, is holding an opening day on Saturday, March 26.

Situated at Leighterton, near Tetbury, Bennetts Farm Shop is the creation of Cotswolds husband and wife farming duo Simon and Tara Best and is the first high-tech, self-service vending-machine farm shop of its type in the area.

The farm shop will be open from 8am to 7pm Monday to Sunday, enabling visitors and shoppers to peruse at their convenience.

Simon and Tara have been wanting to offer their grass-fed Aberdeen Angus beef directly to local consumers, reducing food mileage and offering great value and consistently high quality. The couple's 'Cotswold Angus' cattle are home bred, born and reared at Bennetts Farm. They enjoy March to October turnout and a clever rotational grazing system, so they always have access to lush, fresh grass. The result is happy cows and beef with significant environmental and health benefits over that from intensively grazed cattle.

The farm shop will also feature a milk vending machine from their long-standing friends at neighbouring farm The Leighterton Dairy, as well as a premium coffee machine and syrups for milkshakes for on-the-go refreshments. Simon and Tara are in discussions with other farmers and producers from the area about stocking their produce.

The farm shop grand opening will take place on Saturday, March 26, from 1pm to 5pm and is free for everybody to attend. There's plenty on offer to keep the whole family happy, including a paid coffee and drinks bar, family entertainment, a chef on hand creating delicious food using Bennetts Farm beef, a competition to win a gorgeous hamper and ample free parking.

Tara said: "We can't wait to welcome people to the grand opening of Bennetts Farm Shop! We are so excited to make locally grown, raised and produced food available to people living, passing through or visiting our much-loved local area.

"We know our grass-fed beef has so many environmental and health benefits compared to many supermarket equivalents and can't wait to see what people think of it. We're also proud to be able to support other artisanal food and drinks producers, giving them an outlet for their produce."

Bennetts Farm Shop is located just outside the village of Leighterton, Gloucestershire, with the postcode GL8 8UP.
