New retailer puts best foot forward in Gloucester

Famous bootmakers Timberland have strutted into Gloucester.

The company, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, has opened a new store at Gloucester Quays.

It has taken over the 2,110 sq ft unit opposite The North Face, selling an outlet collection including footwear, menswear, womenswear ranges and accessories from bags to sunglasses and socks.

Owners of the outlet centre Peel L&P said the arrival of the brand was in direct response to feedback from Gloucester Quays' visitors during 2022- when it saw an 8% increase in retail sales compared with 2019.

Paul Carter, asset director at Peel L&P, said: "Adding Timberland to our retail mix showcases two things: performance at Gloucester Quays creates a compelling reason for leading brands to join us; and we genuinely listen to our customers when it comes to shaping the destination.

"This is an iconic brand and one that understands the outlet experience, so naturally we are delighted to have worked with them to bring this new store to life."

American manufacturer and retailer Timberland was founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1952 by Nathan Swartz, a shoemaker from Ukraine.

Their distinctive yellow leather work boots stepped over into fashion icon status in the 90s, featuring on the feet of Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., and Jay-Z.

Today the company is owned by VF Corporation and has more than 250 stores worldwide.

It previously opened a pop-up store in Gloucester Quays in 2017.

Ignacio Abadias, real estate manager EMEA at Timberland, said: "Gloucester Quays is a great outlet in such a beautiful location, from the waterside setting to the heritage of some of its buildings.

"It's amazing to now be open and trading, as we bring our world-famous footwear and clothing collections to the Gloucester Quays customer."
