On a Cotswold balcony soon: Juliet gets a yes

Plans for an elegant new restaurant in the Cotswolds, complete with a dining balcony, are moving ahead with the business behind the project saying it should be up and running this autumn.
Despite concerns from nearby residents over potential outside disturbance, Stroud District Council's licensing committee has granted permission for alcohol to be consumed both on and off the site of the former Corner House bar and restaurant at 49 London Road, Stroud.
Historically, the premises is known as the landmark Old Music Centre and Dan Chadwick, who also owns the iconic Woolpack Inn, in nearby Slad, bought it in 2011 and converted it into a small factory, producing the Chadwick Pizza Oven.
Now set to trade as Juliet and operate six days per week, the restaurant is a new arm for Mr Chadwick, who has owned the famous Woolpack Inn, in nearby Slad, for 25 years.
Mr Chadwick is reported to have named the restaurant after his wife, wallpaper designer Juliet Chadwick, and has posted on a formative website for the restaurant that the venture is looking for an assistant manager, front of house team, chef de partie and commis chefs.
It is also understood that the menu will draw heavily from the Woolpack's substantial kitchen garden operation.
At the licensing hearing, Mr Chadwick, owner of the building and the Woolpack Inn in Slad, assured a neighbour who raised concerns that the restaurant would be very different to the previous retail offer.
He said: "The last thing we want is people crowding on the street. We want to produce a restaurant that is not a bar."
He added that he already had a pub, and didn't need another one."
After buying the premises in 2011, Mr Chadwick said it has represented a "very sorry entrance" for the town.
He added: "I lovingly restored it... I love the building and I love Stroud."
Ms Ophelie Theberge, who is set to become Juliet's general manager, also reassured the committee that outside tables would be for food only.
She added: "People eating inside wanting to have a smoke in between different dishes, they can do so but can't go outside with their drink."
The committee has agreed for the business to be open until 10pm on Monday through Thursday, with opening until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with the licence specifically covering the inside ground floor and outside balcony area.
