New restaurant heading for Quays?

A planning application to Gloucester City Council suggests a large restaurant could be set to open at Gloucester Quays.

Gloucester Quays LLP is seeking permission to change the use of units 73 to 76 for a new restaurant tenant.

Combined, the four units have 691sq m of floorspace, which implies the centre could be looking at a restaurant which is much bigger than any of its current restaurants.

The units have been vacant since construction and were nominally identified as retail units.

Alder King, acting on behalf of Gloucester Quays, is seeking an update to the planning condition which put a limit on the floorspace allocated for food and drink.

The proposal would result in a reduction in floorspace at the Quays for leisure use, but as the space allowance was only an estimate, the applicant considers it reasonable to allocate the space for food and drink.

The planning application adds that changing the use won't undermine or prejudice any future leisure use for the units.

The planning statement supporting the application concluded: "The details of the nature, scale and distribution of leisure uses proposed is in keeping with the original intent of the outline planning application. It seeks to provide a balance of land uses to secure the economic success of the development and ensure its ongoing contribution to the success of the wider city centre."
