New plans for more student flats in Gloucester

The next phase of the new student quarter taking shape in the heart of Gloucester has been revealed.

Developers have submitted plans for a further 194 student bedrooms on the former Barbican car park off of Ladybellegate Street.

At present construction is well advanced on the accommodation hub including around 300 student bedrooms in Phase 1 of the development.

Phase 2, including landscaping and the creation of a new pedestrian way from Ladybellegate Street to Barbican Way, will now be consider by Gloucester City Council planners.

The developer is Cityheart and the main contractor is Vinci based in Bromsgrove, who have been recruiting local contractors to work on the £18 million scheme.

A new car park with entrance from Barbican Way will provide nearly 100 additional spaces for general public use. The new accommodation for students is expected to provide a major boost for Gloucester's day-time and night-time economy.

Phase 1 (pictured right) should be completed this September.
