EXCLUSIVE: New image of plans for vacant Toys R Us in Gloucester

Plans have been submitted for a flagship padel club inside Gloucester's former Toys R Us store.

An application has gone in for three signs to be put up on the building in St Ann Way.

Earlier this year The Padel Club revealed it would be investing £1million to transform the 43,000 sq ft unit into its newest branch.

Due to open in October it will contain nine "game changing" indoor courts run by the Wilmslow-based firm.

A new image from the application, submitted on Tuesday (Aug 13) now shows what club will look like from the outside once work is complete.

The huge unit has sat empty for five years since the toy shop shut but will now come alive with the UK's fastest growing racket sport.

Kris Ball, founder and CEO of The Padel Club, said expansion into Gloucester has always been in mind.

This morning (Aug 16)  Mr Ball posted on LinkedIn that the club would open in seven weeks, making the opening date October 4.

He said the search is now on for staff to work at the club.

"We're on the hunt for a dynamic and passionate head padel coach to lead the coaching team at our brand-new club in Gloucester," he wrote.

Gloucester City Council is due to determine the application for the signs by October 9.
