New housing development launches in Whitminster

Barnwood-based housebuilders Newland Homes' latest development in the county in the village of Whitminster launches this weekend (October 28).

Planning permission was granted for the site in 2015 for 31 homes on School Lane, in the centre of the village adjacent to Highfield Garden World, and Newland Homes has created a selection of individually designed, sustainable properties with far-reaching views over adjoining countryside.

Located close to the River Frome and the Cotswold Canals network, the development named 'Newland Orchard' is situated adjacent to a new community orchard.

The developers have been able to retain significant trees and ecological habitat in the creation of the three, four and five-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes in this rural setting.

The environment is at the forefront of everyone's minds, and the homes and interiors have a host of features to encourage homeowners to live both sustainably and stylishly.

Newland Orchard is the first of Newland Homes' developments to include rainwater butts, composting areas and to have recycling facilities incorporated into the kitchen design.

In addition, Newland Homes prides itself on creating highly efficient, well-insulated homes with A++ energy efficient appliances, dual flush toilets and water saving aerated taps, which use less water but maintain pressure.

Gail Remnant, associate sales director for Newland Homes, said: "Whitminster is a wonderful, active community with a great school, park and numerous sports clubs. In the past 50 years 75% of Gloucestershire's orchards have been lost, so it's a real asset to have a new community orchard on the doorstep.

"We intend to be good neighbours and add to the vibrancy of village life."

Newland Homes has made significant financial contributions to local recreational and library facilities through the S106 planning process, helping Whitminster Playing Fields Pavilion and Stonehouse Library.

The 'Whitminster' showhome

Newland Orchard's showhome is a five-bedroom 'Whitminster' style house; an impressive barn-style home which has been designed especially for this development to complement Whitminster's rural village architecture. The 'Whitminster' has flexible living space, with two of the five bedrooms located on the ground floor, along with a kitchen/dining/family room with conservatory.

The Government's Help to Buy scheme is available on selected properties at Newland Orchard, which means that those wanting to buy a new home could achieve this for a lot less than they anticipated. Help to Buy lends buyers up to 20% of the cost of their new home through an equity loan from the Government, which is interest free for the first five years.

Prices start at £299,995 and the marketing suite and show home is open seven days a week from 11am to 5pm.
