Gloucester City Homes (GCH) have launched 9 new units offering temporary accommodation, for those who find themselves homeless, in Southgate Street.

The new accommodation has been renovated within a former office block and offers interchangeable layouts to provide flexible accommodation to meet the needs of larger families.

Anita Pope, Director of Housing & Communities at GCH says "Sadly there is increasing demand for larger temporary housing for homeless families in Gloucester. Therefore working with Gloucester City Council, we have developed these new self-contained units which can be connected and adapted to accommodate larger families, offering homeless residents and families the best possible reboot or start to their housing pathway."

Natalie Thelwell, Head of Housing at GCH adds "GCH now manages 74 units of temporary accommodation and the new housing at Southgate Street offers a safe, warm and modern space to meet the needs of homeless residents and families. It has been designed to provide a temporary step whilst longer term housing and support is identified, a positive development for Gloucester as a city."

GCH is committed to improving access to accommodation and the future of those who find themselves homeless.

As well as the Southgate Street development, at the end of 2020, GCH was the first organisation to claim a Government grant of £1.7million as part of the Next Steps Accommodation Programme to provide 37 safe units to prevent rough sleepers from returning to the streets.

Work is underway to deliver the housing across 3 unused buildings across Gloucester by the summer: St Michaels Square (City Centre), Burleigh House (City Centre) and Olympus Park (Quedgeley).
