New Home Secretary as Amber Rudd resigns
By Mark Owen | 30th April 2018
Sajid Javid has today become the new Home Secretary after Amber Rudd stepped down.
Ms Rudd's departure followed criticism of her handling of the Windrush generation controversy and immigration policy.
Mr Javid, the son of a Pakistani bus driver, has pledged to review policy to ensure immigrants are dealt fairly and with dignity and respect.
The new Home Secretary is no stranger to Gloucestershire having visited the county on several occasions as Communities and Local Government Secretary and Business Secretary.
He was raised in Bristol where for a time he attended Filton Technical College which later became part of South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS).
Mr Javid, 48, a former investment banker, has been MP for Bromsgrove since 2010.
Punchline wishes Mr Javid well in his new role. It is generally accepted that the Home Secretary's job is one of the toughest in Government but judging by Mr Javid's past performance he has the determination and skill to take on the challenge.
