New deli hopes for slice of the action in Stroud

A new delicatessen has opened its doors to customers in Stroud.

The shop which has been refitted and refurbished is on the site of the former Swan Pub, Union Street.

Fittingly for a business house in the former Swan Pub in Union Street, Armadeli will stock a range of organic wines, beers and ciders as well as cheeses, charcuterie and accompaniments.

Armorel Willoughby, the owner of Armadeli, said: "We are very excited. The town has a fantastic and rich mixtures of shops, bars and restaurants and we are very much looking forward to adding to this.

"My team and I share a passion and interest in food and drink and we have spent a great deal of time sourcing a fantastic choice of products.

"Many of these are from all round the world, that you won't necessarily find in the supermarket, but also with a strong emphasis on local produce where possible".

Armadeli will stock more than 100 cheeses from the UK and Europe, more than 50 different cured meats, a range of chutneys, olives, antipasti and savoury.

Ms Willoughby said: "We will be looking to giving a level of personal service that you rarely see these days and share our passion and knowledge of our products.

"One example of this will be our wine pairing advice to help you select the perfect wine to accompany your cheese or charcuterie, ideal for that special meal or entertaining".

Armadeli will have both indoor and outdoor seating for coffees, teas, a glass of wine, beer or cider to accompany a menu of snacks and light meals.

"They will also be changing the products served to reflect the seasons and will be holding cheese and wine events. The shop also has range of hampers that can be bought from the shop or online and also will be providing Cheese Celebration Cakes as an alternative to traditional cakes."

Originally from a legal background Armorel, decided to pursue her interest in food and drink and has worked at Whole Foods Market and Gloucester Services. She is also a member of the Guild of Fine Foods.

Ms Willoughby said: "Our first aim is to become a well-known and respected part of the Stroud retail community, we then hope to build the awareness and increase the online sales of hampers and cheese celebration cakes.

"Further ahead, who knows, there may even be more Armadeli delicatessens! We are very much though for now, looking forward to meeting and serving the people of Stroud".

The shop will be open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm.
