New EV chargers heading for city?
By Sarah Wood | 25th April 2025
Ultra-rapid EV chargers could be coming to Gloucester, if plans are approved.
PoGo Charge has applied to Gloucester City Council for planning permission for six electric vehicle charging bays with associated infrastructure at Westgate Retail Park.

The six proposed chargers would replace eight existing parking spaces in the car park on Westgate Street and Royal Oak Road.
Associated works on the site would include EVC upstands, a feeder pillar, power units, a substation, lighting, bollard and signage.
In a letter to support the planning application, PoGo Charge said: "With the goal of ending sales of petrol and diesel cars by 2030, there is a need for a robust charging infrastructure. The government wants to see 300,000 public chargepoints by 2030, focused on high powered charging on the strategic road network and local parking areas."
PoGo Charge is aiming to be the leading provider in rapid and ultra-rapid charging solutions in the UK.
It added: "The provision of EV charging will help futureproof the [Westgate Retail Park] site by accommodating the growing demand for electric vehicles."
The proposal is currently out for consultation.
