New eatery planned for city centre

A new restaurant or café could soon be opening in Gloucester' city centre.

Planners are being asked to approve the new eatery at 60, Westgate Street - the former Raging Bull clothing store.

The lifestyle brand, owned by former rugby star Phil Vickery, closed the shop earlier this year after only a few months of trading. Raging Bull says it is now looking for alternative premises in the city.

Previously, the premises were owned by up-market menswear brand Hayden Taylor. With four floors the grade 2 listed building dates back to the 19th century and is on a prime site near the entrance to Gloucester Cathedral.

Now an application has been submitted for change of use of the building from A1 (shops and retail outlets) to A3 (food and drink). There are no details about the type of restaurant or café planned.

Westgate Street is well served with a variety of cafes, pubs and sandwich bars.
