National award for Cotswold restaurant

A Cirencester restaurant has been recognised as being one of the best places to eat in England.

Tierra and Mar came top in the South West in the 2022 Food Awards at Manchester's Mecure Piccadilly Hotel.

Thousands of venues were considered for the accolades with a spokesperson for the awards saying: "These awards aim to thank those who work hard within the city's food industry and contribute to making England a great gastronomic place to visit."

This is the second award this year for this small family-run restaurant, which received two AA Rosettes earlier this year.

Located on the town's Sheep Street, Tierra and Mar is run by husband-and-wife team, head chef, Brett Russell, 32 and front of house manager, Silvia Perez-Alcazar, 33. Other main roles are filled by bar manager Luis Paladines while Brett works alongside trusted sous chef Tamás Kvascsuk.

Brett said. "We were runners-up last year so this shows we are moving in the right direction. I have some more plans for the restaurant this year with the addition of a bar menu."

Brett is no stranger to awards and top end kitchens. Before setting up with his wife Silvia he worked at Michelin recognised venues in England and Australia as well as Restaurante Riff in Valencia, which is one star and Es racò D'es Teix in Mallorca, once again another one-star super restaurant.
