£1.2m sale of Nailsworth’s former railway station on track

The former Nailsworth Railway Station - now converted into a four-bedroom home - is under offer with a guide price of £1.2m.

Advertised through Peter Joy Estate Agents, the grade II listed property is in a private position on the edge of the market town.

The property was originally built in 1867 as a terminus to the Stonehouse and Nailsworth railway, later incorporated into the Midland Railway. It continued to offer a passenger service until 1947, with the goods yard and service remaining open until 1966.

The station then fell into disrepair until its current owners purchased the site some 30 years ago and has since been the subject of careful, sympathetic renovation, with the station master's house, waiting rooms and boardroom elements of the original building cleverly combined to create a unique character home.

More than an acre of formal gardens, parking, outbuildings and woodland surround the main station building, which is arranged over two floors with four double bedrooms, as well as a 22ft kitchen/family room and large bathroom.

There is also gated access to the front leading to the original platform, with a useful wood store and old railway out house to the left. This platform stretches along the front of the railway station, with a covered sitting area to the front of the building and steps that lead down to a large level garden.

This is in the position of the original train tracks, below the platform, and this stretches away from the property and leads to an area of secluded woodland that is part of the title. This has access on to the cycle path, which was of course the original train track.

There is a productive growing area to the side of the house, and, beyond that, a 50 foot 'goods shed' style outbuilding. This space was modelled from an original railway storage building, and has arched entrances and detailing, power and light and an internal staircase that leads up to a first floor storage room. The building has also been fitted with solar electric panels that generate energy and also provide the owner of the property with a tax free income.

Peter Joy Estate Agents are managing the sale of the property, which is now under offer, with a guide price of £1,200,000.
