Mystery continues to surround filming at Cathedral

Filming is taking place again at Gloucester Cathedral today (September 7) which could see the county's iconic building once more on the big screen.

Film fans will be familiar with the building's starring role in such blockbusters as the Harry Potter series and most recently in The Spanish Princess, a sequel to Philippa Gregory's The White Princess - which was described as a "major TV production".

The series featured Downton Abbey actress Laura Carmichael who plays Lady Edith Crawley.

As is the case with such things while the Cathedral is keen to benefit from the publicity long term, in the short-term discretion remains paramount.

The same goes for the film crew itself - which generally wants to proceed unimpaired by on-lookers, fans or otherwise.

However, film crews were spotted again at the Cathedral this morning with staff unloading a series of props - including tall wrought iron lamp stands suggesting a period drama.

A van with a 'film crew' sign on its dash board was also parked nearby with security guards in the vacinity.

Sandie Conway, communications officer at the Cathedral, said: "Gloucester Cathedral has a good reputation for being a 'film friendly' location.

"Filming is a valuable source of income and more importantly is an excellent way to raise the profile of both the Cathedral and the City of Gloucester."
