Multi-million-pound sale sees Cheltenham builders' merchants change ownership

Bristol-based GL Law has revealed the sale of Staverton Building Supplies' assets and shares to timber and builders' merchant, Sydenhams Ltd.

Based at Meteor Business Park, Staverton Building Supplies have built a strong reputation over several decades for personal service and long-lasting relationships with their customers.

Sydenhams Ltd is an independent company with a long tradition of supplying timber and building materials throughout the South of England.

The double-deal, involving Staverton Building Supplies and Isobar Properties Limited to acquirer Sydenhams, led to a negotiated multi-million-pound asset and share transaction which completed in December 2020.

The acquisition brings Sydenhams to a total of 31 sites across the South of England including a variety of timber and builders' merchants, specialist timber centres, kitchen and bathroom showrooms, tool and plant hire services and timber engineering depots.

The GL Law team was led by head of corporate and commercial Paul Hardman, head of commercial property Julian Pyrke and corporate solicitor Karen Davies.

Paul Hardman said: "We are delighted to have acted for Staverton Building Supplies on their sale to Sydenhams Limited. Staverton are an established business with a proven track record in providing outstanding service to their long-term customers. We're proud to have supported them through a key time in their history."

Julian Pyrke added: "I was first instructed by Mark and Mansell when they had sold their previous building suppliers some 20-plus years ago. I have now come full circle with Staverton Building Supplies having acted on the original purchase of their site back in 2001. I had dealt with the site alongside the various lettings over the years and closed the circle with this transaction.

"It has been a privilege to advise and provide support on their journey and I wish them all the best for the future."
