Motorists face hike in car parking charges
26th September 2017
It is going to be more expensive to park your car in Gloucester from next month.
The city council is raising parking charges from between 10p to 50p depending on where you park your car and for how long.
Motorists who use the popular Southgate Moorings car park next to Gloucester Docks (pictured) will now have to pay a £1.50p evening charge.
The council says it is the first time since 2007 that prices have risen despite financial pressures in other areas and a recent £750,000 investment into the city's Eastgate Shopping Centre car park.
However, the need to carry out improvement works to the rest of the city's car parks and the need to make a further £2.6 million savings over the next four years has led to the increases from Friday October 13.
A full list of the prices for the parking zones and timing restrictions is available at the council's website www.gloucester.gov.uk.
Cllr Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council and cabinet member for regeneration and economy, said: "We're committed to making our city centre as attractive and convenient as possible for our residents and visitors.
"We know the importance that fairly priced, quality car parking plays in supporting the city and this increase is the first we've made in ten years.
"I'm sure residents and visitors will agree that the price is modest in comparison to neighbouring areas and will help us to keep the city's car parks clean, modern and functional."
