Morrisons’ new owner to sell petrol stations

The takeover of Morrisons by Clayton, Dubilier and Rice (CD&R) next month looks set to go ahead, after the group offered to sell 87 petrol stations.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has been looking into CD&R's proposed £7bn takeover of the supermarket chain and had raised competition concerns, as reported by Retail Gazette.
The private equity firm also owns petrol station giant Motor Fuel Group (MFG). The watchdog warned that the Morrisons takeover could lead to fuel prices increasing in 121 locations across the UK.
Morrisons operates 339 petrol stations across the UK, including Gloucester, Tewkesbury and Cheltenham. MFG is the largest independent operator of petrol stations in the UK and has 921 forecourts.
The CMA has confirmed it is ready to accept an offer from CD&R to sell 87 petrol stations. It is not known if any of these will be in Gloucestershire.
The CMA is now consulting on the proposals for the sale of the forecourts.
