More funding available for Tewkesbury voluntary and community groups

The Covid-19 emergency community grant scheme was launched in March 2020 as the UK entered its first UK lockdown, and to date more than 100 organisations in Tewkesbury have received funding.

Tewkesbury Borough Council and Gloucestershire County Council have now both topped-up the fund, which will remain open over the coming weeks, and are urging groups to get in touch.

Anyone involved with a voluntary or community organisation - such as a registered charity, constituted community group, social enterprise, or parish or town council - is encouraged to apply for a grant. Those who have already received funding through this scheme may still be eligible to apply again.

Tewkesbury Borough Council's economic and community development manager, Andy Sanders, said: "Awarding over 100 grants has been fantastic, but the funds are there to provide even more support and we would love for more groups to come forward and apply.

"The grants focus on building strong communities who feel equipped to support our most vulnerable residents through the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the government's roadmap shows how restrictions will gradually lift, we know the road ahead will still be difficult for a great many people, so I would encourage all community-based organisations to consider applying for funding to support their vital work."

A Covid-19 community grant made a big difference to 1st Churchdown Boys' Brigade when it received funding to provide activity packs to help keep its members engaged during lockdown.

Andrew Baldwin, one of the group's leaders, said: "Although we ran some Zoom sessions, not all members enjoyed using them, and some were unable to join due to lack of equipment or access to the internet. Support from Tewkesbury Borough Council has made a real difference during a period when we haven't been able to meet face-to-face and has helped us to keep engaging with all of our members."
