McDonald’s sales take a hit

McDonald's sales globally have fallen for the first time in three years.

The fast food giant saw a 1% drop in sales - to $2.46bn - for the three months to the end of June, as reported by The Times.

The chain said customers were being more careful with their money and looking for deals.

McDonald's sales in the USA were down 0.7%, compared to a 10.3% rise for the same quarter last year. International sales (those outside the USA) were down 1.1%, affected particularly by a fall in the French market. And sales for the McDonald's franchise section were down 1.3%.

Food price inflation has forced many people to eat cheaper options at home and cut back on spending on eating out and takeaways, which has also affected rival brands like Domino's.

In Gloucestershire, McDonald's restaurants across the county - five in Gloucester, two in Cheltenham and one in Stroud - are operated by franchise Incito Group Holdings.
