Massive expansion planned for fast food chain

The sandwich shop group, Subway, intends to open a further 500 stores up to 2020, the BBC has reported.

It would make it twice as big as its nearest rival Greggs with 3,000 outlets across the UK and Ireland.

The company is also overhauling its stores with a revamped menu and a new look for the shops.

The BBC reports that the expansion plans would create 5,000 new jobs.

The group is famous for its long, US-style baguette-like sandwiches made with soft bread and salads.

We at Punchline recognise there is a fast food battle taking place on our High Street but believe it is important we support our independently-owned sandwich shops which provide freshly prepared food and support local jobs.
