Man warned he faces prison over tax fraud
By Court reporter | 17th October 2018
A 57 year old Cheltenham man who has pleaded guilty to tax fraud involving an alleged £170,000 faces a prison sentence, a Gloucester judge warned him today.
Lee Bales, of London Road, Charlton Kings, was in the dock at Gloucester crown court this morning with his wife Anna Bales.
Mr Bales admitted that between 14th October 2010 and 28th August 2014 he was knowingly concerned in fraudulent evasion of income tax.
Prosecutor, Susan Cavender said the amount of tax evaded was 'currently standing at £170,000'.
"He will produce documentation to reduce that to £100,000," Ms Cavender told Judge Michael Cullum.
Mrs Bales entered a not guilty plea to the allegations, and the judge gave the prosecution until 9th November to decide whether they wish to continue with the case against her, in light of Mr Bales admissions.
The judge told Mr Bales that he would receive credit for entering a guilty plea, but warned him that: "all options remain open, and that includes immediate custody, for an amount of this level."
Mr Bales will be sentenced at the next hearing on 9th November.
He was granted bail to that date.
