Man charged with cannabis production

A man will appear before magistrates in Cheltenham today (26th February) charged with production of cannabis.

Hung Minh Tran, aged 34, was arrested yesterday at an address in Stallions Hill, Newent where officers from Gloucestershire Constabulary's Crime Operations team found a number of cannabis plants.

Police tweeted that 170 plants had been discovered.

It follows the seizure of hundreds of cannabis plants in raids in both Cheltenham and Gloucester, with over £1 million worth of cannabis seized in the county this year.

Following the seizure of cannabis plants in Gloucester earlier this month, Neil Smith, detective chief inspector, said: "I believe that these discoveries will have a significant impact on all of our communities, as these factories generate money that is pumped into the purchase of Class A drugs like cocaine, sexual exploitation, human trafficking and also the purchase of firearms.

"We would ask anyone who suspects that drugs are being manufactured near them to let us know, you can do this by anonymously calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
