Man charged with attempted murder after woman stabbed in Cheltenham

A man from Cheltenham has been charged with attempted murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

As part of an investigation led by detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing South East, Joshua Bowles, aged 29, of Welwyn Mews, Cheltenham, was charged with one count of each offence on Wednesday, March 15.
The Crown Prosecution Service authorised charges in relation to an incident in which a woman was stabbed outside a leisure centre in Tommy Taylor's Lane in Cheltenham, on Thursday, March 9. She sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. She remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Bowles, who remains in custody, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, March 16.
Detective Chief Superintendent Olly Wright, head of Counter Terrorism Policing South East, said: "We would encourage people not to speculate on the specific circumstances surrounding this incident. We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no information to suggest any wider threat to the local community. We must now let the judicial process take place."
