Major improvements on the way for Cheltenham Promenade
14th December 2017
Essential maintenance work will be carried out to pavements on the Promenade in Cheltenham starting in January.
Gloucestershire County Council will be carrying out a major scheme to improve the footway on the north west side from the St George's Road junction down to the Imperial Square junction.
Work will take place from 3rd January to 9th March. It is the fourth phase of a scheme to improve the local street scene in Cheltenham and estimated to cost around £296,000.
The existing surface will be replaced to match other footway improvements carried out in the vicinity in previous years.
For the safety of pedestrians and the workforce, sections of the footway will be closed during the construction works. Pedestrian access will be maintained using a combination of existing and temporary walkways.
The on-street parking bays will also be closed for the works. The county council will be speaking with businesses and residents adjacent to the footway about access arrangements before work starts.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for flooding and highways, said: "We've been working very closely with Cheltenham Borough Council on the designs and co-ordinating with their licensing teams to ensure any inconvenience is kept to a minimum.
"We ask people for their patience while this work is completed. It will be worth it."
Tim Harman, county councillor for Lansdown and Park, said: "These works are a very welcome part of a significant investment into the local street scene of Cheltenham town centre and demonstrate the benefit of collaborative working."
Anyone with any queries about this scheme should call 08000 514 514.
