Major Gloucester road to close for resurfacing

Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) will be resurfacing part of London Road in Gloucester between September 21 and 28 (excluding the weekend).

Due to start on September 17, the scheme has now been moved back to next week as a result of operational issues.

The road surface between the Cheltenham Road junction and Barnwood Road roundabout needs attention so crews will be working during the day between 9:30am and 3:30pm to resurface the road.

GCC has said that times have been chosen to keep the road open during peak travel times in this busy area of the city, and to prevent a clash with the ongoing work at London Road, where road space is being reallocated for a new cycle lane.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: "Investing in Gloucester's roads is really important as thousands of road users use this part of the city every day.

"I appreciate it might be inconvenient; however we have tried to limit disruption by working reduced hours on weekdays. There will be a signed diversion, however if you know a different route please take care."
