Good vintage sees wine retailer open new stores

Majestic has ramped up its bricks-and-mortar expansion plans following the opening of two new stores this week, Retail Gazette has reported.

The wine retailer unveiled its 4,775 sq ft store in neighbouring county Wiltshire, at Chippenham and its 6,275 sq ft space in Monmouth, Wales.

This is the first time the retailer has opened two new stores in the same week for a decade, which it said, "underlines our ongoing commitment to physical, experiential retail".

In Gloucestershire, Majestic has stores in Westgate Retail Park, Gloucester; Gallagher Retail Park, Cheltenham; and Stow on the Wold.

Majestic will open its smaller format in London's Crouch End next month as part of the retailer's ambitious plans to grow its store portfolio at a rate of one new store per month.

It said that accelerating its shop opening programme was a "central pillar of its growth strategy".

John Colley, chief executive, said: "Opening two stores in a week for the first time in 10 years underlines our ongoing commitment to physical, experiential retail, and offers a clear sign of how far we have progressed as a business under the ownership of Fortress.

"We always talk about our store colleagues as our secret sauce at Majestic - and opening more stores that provide more customers across the UK with access to our highly qualified experts and unique, quality wines is a strategy that is working.

"We are proud to be accelerating that pipeline of new store openings ahead of Christmas and are excited about becoming a part of even more communities across the UK in the coming months."

Bricks-and-mortar has been a key part of the retailer's growth strategy since it split from Naked Wines in December 2019 and under the ownership of Fortress Investment Group.
