Main road into county town to be closed for weekend resurfacing
17th August 2017
One of the main routes into Dursley town centre will be closed for resurfacing over the weekend of September 2-3.
The works will take place between between 7:30am and 5:30pm on the A4135 junction with Water Street, and just past the roundabout at the end of Bull Pitch on to the A4135 and B4066.
The road has reached the end of its life expectancy and needs a new surface.
The work will take place over a weekend so there is as little disruption as possible to nearby businesses and buses.
The service 65A, provided by Community Connections, will run an alternative route on Saturday, September 2.
Stagecoach will announce details of any diversions for the Sunday service 61 on their website at www.stagecoachbus.com
The work will be complete before children go back to school, so it will not disrupt the school run.
Cllr Vernon Smith, Gloucestershire County Council's cabinet member for highways, said, "This is an important scheme for Dursley and is part of our ongoing commitment to invest in our roads.
"We appreciate this work may cause some disruption. However, it is important we complete this before schools go back the following week."
Cllr Loraine Patrick, local county councillor for Dursley, said, "Please plan your journeys around Dursley on this weekend, as the closure may mean your journey takes a little longer than normal."
Residents will know more convenient routes around the town, but the signed diversion will be suitable for all traffic including HGVs.
