M&S to launch four-day working week

Marks & Spencer is set to offer store staff the option to work a four-day compressed week.

The retailer's new flexible working policy, known as Worklife, has been designed to help employees get a better work-life balance, in order to attract the best talent in the industry, as reported by Retail Gazette.

From January 2023, more than 3,000 M&S retail managers will have flexible working options, including a four-day compressed week or nine-day compressed fortnight.

Part-time managers at the retailer, which has stores in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cirencester, will have their own pro-rata flexible working offer.

The plans were piloted at 100 stores, with 75 per cent of managers taking part stating that it had a positive impact on their family life.

M&S has also launched a platform for staff to match with potential job share partners.
