Lydney Hospital for sale as services transfer to new £11m Cinderford site

Lydney Hospital is now up for sale with the Minor Injury and Illness Unit due to relocate to the new £11milion Cinderford site on Thursday night (May 16).

NHS Gloucestershire Health and Care Foundation Trust has already stopped 'walk in' slots at the unit and said there will be a change in opening hours and appointment arrangements during the transition.

It will reopen on May 16 at the Forest of Dean Community Hospital which has been built on the former site of Collingwood Skatepark and play area.

As well as the minor injuries unit, the new hospital will include a 24-bed inpatient ward, diagnostics including x-ray and ultrasound, therapies and adult and children's outpatient departments, midwifery team and a specialist dental service.

It will replace both the Forest's Lydney Community Hospital and Dilke Memorial Hospital.

Douglas Blair, chief executive at the Trust, said: "Moving services into a wonderful new hospital is an exciting time and I know colleagues now just want to be in there and working.

"We're helping colleagues familiarise themselves with the new building at the moment, and I'm aware that moving services will be hard work and take some time to get used to.

"I hope the public will be considerate with our staff while we work through this process. There will be some disruption, but we'll keep that to a minimum, and hope everyone appreciates the new hospital when it starts helping the Forest of Dean community."

Parking at the new hospital will be free for staff and visitors.

Meanwhile Alder King is marketing the Lydney site as a "refurbishment and or new build opportunity" with offers to be considered on either the whole site or its two sections.

It is made of the 0.55cre main hospital and the 1.03 acre outpatients and physiotherapy unit, which site either side of Grove Road

The hospital building dates from circa 1914 but has single and two storey extensions/additions including a modular ward unit.

The outpatients section includes a car park and an adjoining undeveloped parcel of land adjacent to Holms Farm which has outline planning approval for 29 new homes and restoration of a farmhouse.

The NHS will retain the Stonebury House part of the site and it will continue to be occupied by several teams for "the foreseeable future".

The Dilke site is due to come on the market later this month.

Both sites are coming up for sale following a six-week window offering community groups the chance to put forward a bid for the buildings, which are registered as Assets of Community Value (ASVs).
