Longfield opens its first vintage shop in Cirencester

Longfield's newest charity shop is proving it's a cut above the rest.

The hospice care charity has opened its first vintage/retro shop in Dyer Street in Cirencester. The shop mainly focuses on designer retro and vintage fashion, collectable books and vintage bric a brac.

It is a second shop for the town as Longfield already has its largest and most successful shop in Bishops Walk.

To celebrate the vintage feel, staff and volunteers dressed in vintage clothes - all sourced from the new shop - for the opening.

Longfield runs 19 charity shops across the county who all helped to gather the best of their vintage and retro donations from the past few months to be featured at the opening of the Cirencester specialist shop.

"The charity is marking its 30th anniversary this year so it was the perfect time to focus on that vintage vibe," said Ian Cherry, Director of Operations.

"We chose Cirencester because it is one of our most important communities where we deliver our hospice at home care which enables people to die at home, surrounded by their loved ones.

"Longfield is only able to provide the care and support free of charge thanks to the community's support and an important part of that is the money we raise from our shops."

Don't expect to find CDs or DVDs in the shop. Instead it is vinyl - complete with a record player to try them out on.

"It is full of quirky finds from a vintage tie press to retro fashion," said Bev Wright, manager of the shop. "It's like a little treasure trove, the creme de la creme of Longfield, and certainly not what you might expect to find from a charity shop."
