Latest smartphone feature at your fingertips
16th January 2018
The world's first smartphone with a fingerprint sensor within the display is here and it was showcased at CES 2018 last week. You would think smartphone innovation of this kind would have come from Apple or Samsung, but in fact it came from a small Chinese manufacturer.
Vivo joined forces with the hardware developer Synaptics, which is based in California, to design and build a smartphone that has the ability to scan a fingerprint through the pixels of its OLED display. The entirely bezel-less smartphone, which is yet to be named, takes just shy of 0.7 seconds to authenticate a fingerprint through its Clear ID sensor.
The current prototype with the new in-display technology is somewhat slower than the fingerprint sensors inside smartphones currently on the market, but has been proven to be just as accurate.
With manufacturers across the globe moving closer and closer to the edges of their smartphones with their displays, this could be a huge milestone for the industry. Once this technology is fully developed, it will eliminate the need for a home button.
Here at Punchline Gloucester we are amazed at how much smartphone technology has progressed in recent years and believe it has become a key feature in business life.
